Sentinel

Off the coast of India is a small island that 18^th century European cartographers had called Sentinel Island. Oddly enough, none of the European countries ever invaded, explored, or simply set foot on this island.

After gaining her independence from England, India decided that nothing should be changed. The 1,200 or so Sentinellians live as did our prehistoric ancestors, and the Indian government thought (and still thinks) that it is a precious and admirable state of affairs. No one should bother these people. Sentinel Island is off limit to anyone. The Indian Navy keeps an eye on it.

A young American missionary decided that he would ignore the Indian laws and go to Sentinel in order to bring the word of God to these forgotten people. He bribed and convinced a fishing boat owner to take him there. The missionary landed, and in the few seconds the skipper took to turn round and flee, he just had time to watch the young man being skewered by half a dozen arrows.
