Before I go to Sleep is a remarkable novel with a very
original plot. The author, in her introduction, specifies that mental illness
cases such as the one she describes are rare, but real.
The plot
proceeds very slowly, and is saved only because the style is fluid, rigorous
and convincing. The final twist is worthy of a top detective story.
So, why
did I give only three stars on the Amazon review ? Because (and this is purely a personal feeling) it is too
long, too spread out and repetitive. I wouldn’t go as far as saying that it
should have been a short story, but a 75-page novella would have packed more
punch and given the reader more pleasure.
